Lambs Ear Shoes for Covet Fridays

September 14th, 2012  |  Published in Covet Fridays, Designers, Men's Fashion, Shoes, Shopping, Women's Fashion |  Add a comment

Lambs Ear is a local boutique in Fremont, known for carefully curated fashion finds for mostly women. While their jewelry and vintage pieces are lust worthy, we absolutely love its spread of shoes.

All of its collection from brands like A Détacher and Zeha Berlin is specifically chosen by owner, Angie Sorenson, based on craftsmanship, design and material. We find it great that it stepped into the men’s space by offering a select number of shoes designed by Zeha Berlin. It’s collection will set you back a few hundred dollars, but it’s impeccably made, is classic, and will make a statement. Here are some of our favorite looks from it’s current collection – which are your favorites?

Margaret O’Leary for Covet Fridays

September 7th, 2012  |  Published in Covet Fridays, Designers, Shopping, Women's Fashion |  Add a comment

We were invited to a grand opening event at the new Margaret O’Leary store at U-Village, but unfortunately couldn’t make it. Did anyone go? If not, we’re absolutely hooked – cozy knitwear spanning from the traditional cardigan to over-sized ponchos.

We’ve picked some of our favorite looks from the fall look book. While not all the pieces come cheap, we’re willing to splurge on items we’ll wear to death. And trust us, we’d LIVE in these pieces.

Liz James Jewelry for Covet Fridays

We were recently approached by Liz James Designs and were immediately struck by the simple, delicate designs of these incredibly wearable pieces. Austin-based Jamie Pope’s collection has been worn by celebrities like Carrie Underwood and Jennie Garth; and not to mention also blowing up the local Austin magazine scene. Below are some of our favorite pieces, all of which run for a bit more than the prices you’ll find at J.Crew (between $100-$250).

Sea Fold Down Tote for Covet Fridays

July 27th, 2012  |  Published in Accessories, Covet Fridays, Designers, Women's Fashion  |  2 Comments

A tote…that folds into a clutch…we need this in our lives.

We came across this tote a few months ago in a Marie Claire magazine. We loved its versatile, utilitarian aesthetic and clean lines.

When we checked out the rest of the designs from Sea, though, we felt a strong connection with the brand. It’s girly and boyish at the same time, making it effortlessly cool. Each piece can be thrown on and still look good, especially when paired together because it is part of an impeccably streamlined collection.

Men’s Facial Cleansers for Covet Fridays

July 20th, 2012  |  Published in Beauty & Grooming, Covet Fridays, Green Style, Men's Fashion  |  3 Comments

It’s been a while since we brought you The Beauty Products We’re Dying to Try sub-series of our Covet Fridays ritual. Last time we did this we highlighted the men’s essential grooming list.

If you missed it, we highlighted one of the essentials is a good facial cleanser, which we’re appalled that more men don’t use. It can seriously fix your complexion, and it takes less than 2 minutes to do. We’ve seen some products we’re interested in trying – have you given any of these a go?

If you’re new to facial cleansing, here are some of our tips for keeping it low maintenance, but effective. Stick with these and you’ll have clear complexion in no time, which everyone knows can make the shaving scene a lot easier.

  1. Washing your face at night is the most important, getting all the grime off from the day. Washing your face too much can strip it of its natural oils, so play it cool and do twice a day max.
  2. Exfoliant (the stuff with the course texture) should only be used once a week and is good fo getting rid of dead skin cells.
  3. Your face can reflect what you eat – oily foods can cause breakouts.
  4. Don’t pick zits. We like toothpaste as an overnight spot treatment because it makes the pimple come to a head faster, which leads to faster healing time. And, everyone has toothpaste.
  5. Buy facial cleansers that match your skin type: dry, normal, oily, or combo.
  6. Use alcohol free cleansers, particularly if you have dry skin (cream-based products are the best).
  7. Look for organic versions that don’t have sulfates or parabens. You wouldn’t shit on your face so don’t put a bunch of potentially toxic ingredients you can’t pronounce there either.

Lemlem Sustainable Fashion for Covet Fridays

July 13th, 2012  |  Published in Covet Fridays, Green Style, Women's Fashion |  Add a comment

We love a good cause, so Lem Lem is a no brainer for us. Former supermodel and World Health Organization ambassador Liya Kebede is helping stimulate jobs for weavers in her homeland of Ethiopia. Lemlem means “to flourish or bloom,” and thanks to Kebede’s support in preserving this ancient art form, she is stimulating the Ethiopian economy and producing fashion we can be proud to wear. You can see more about the handmade process here.

What we’re loving about Lemlem’s current collection is it’s effortless and breezy feel. Its organic muslin and rustic, weathered look are threaded throughout the collection, giving a refreshing dose of cohesiveness.

Men’s Summer Shoe Guide for Covet Fridays

June 29th, 2012  |  Published in Covet Fridays, Men's Fashion, Shoes, Shopping, Style Guides  |  1 Comment

Travis here. I’ll be honest, I’m more of a winter shoe guy. I have a thing against sandals, so I find it particularly difficult to change up my kicks during the warmer season. So I’m constantly on a mission to find shoes that fit into my rules but also offer a break from the shoes I wear year round.

Here’s my list of men’s must-have summer shoes:
(click on the image to visit the site they are from)

1. Espadrilles
These are blowing up in men’s fashion this year, and I can’t be more excited about all the sweet interpretations of the classic espadrilles shoe. Plus, these are typically an affordable shoe so you can have fun with colors and patterns, whereas I’d probably recommend staying classic with the more expensive summer shoes. Here are some of my favorites from around the web.

2. Boat Shoes
Quintessentially summer, boat shoes should be in every man’s wardrobe. They come in a variety of colors that can really add pop to your look. And designers are really playing with the shape of the boat shoe this year. For a guy like me who is big on shoe shape, this really widens the options.

3. Slip-On Shoes
This is a pretty versatile category, and there are a ton of options from leather to canvas. I am obsessing over these leather sandals that are CLOSE TOED. I can see them going perfectly with a pair of muslin or linen pants for a Colombian-inspired look. I’m also loving the play on men’s smoking loafers, but with a summer twist.

4. Men’s Summer Brogues
I can’t give up my brogues during the summer months, but I like to change it up by investing in some summer-appropriate versions of this classic. Think color, perforated, cutouts, and materials. Also, consider forgoing the socks, unlacing the shoe, and rolling up your pants for a thrown-together vibe.

Jack Willis British Prep for Covet Fridays

June 15th, 2012  |  Published in Covet Fridays, Men's Fashion, Need To Know, Shopping  |  2 Comments

In light of Britain’s Jubilee Weekend, we thought it fitting to highlight this British outfitter that recently started opening more stores throughout the US. If you mix J.Crew’s typical summer collection with a Ralph Lauren ad, you pretty much have Jack Willis.
