Game of Thrones Style: Kit Harington for Covet Fridays

March 2nd, 2012  |  Published in Covet Fridays, Guest Contributor, Men's Fashion |  Add a comment

We are so excited that Games of Thrones premieres April 1st. Thus, we had our resident HBO expert and dear friend Jacob Klein jump in to write a guest article about some Game of Thrones style.

When he isn’t protecting the realms of men from wildlings, white-walkers, and other terrors threatening the kingdoms of Westeros, Kit Harington still manages find a little time for fashion. In the latest edition of Men’s Journal, Kit – aka Jon Snow on HBO’s fantasy epic Game of Thrones – shows off some of the latest trends in men’s casual wear. Here are some of the highlights:

This single-breasted trench is lightweight and has a modern cut that even a brother of the Night’s Watch could appreciate. It’s resin-coated so you’ll stay protected from Seattle’s frequent showers, something not always common on a coat as stylish as this.

Long patrols beyond The Wall can chill a man to the bone, but this striped merino wool crewneck sweater will not only stave off winter’s breath, it’ll also keep you cozy. The sweater is purportedly softer than your average wool garment. The Henry sweater will set you back $220, but what could be more worth it than absolute warmth and comfort? It doesn’t look half bad on Lord Sno…err… Kit either.

The awkward look on Kit’s face just screams “this one’s for you, ladies!” Let’s face it guys, we don’t spend much time thinking about our ‘small clothes’ but I assure you – the ladies do! Mr. Harington is rocking a pair of boxers from Gap that have a great cut and only move when you do. They also have the added benefit of being extremely affordable at $12.50 a pair. And you only need like, what… 3 pair total? Jon Snow’s oath may prevent him from getting too close to the wenches, but I assume you’ve taken no such vow and the woman(en) in your life will thank you for having a few backup pairs of these presentable boxers from Gap.

Parisian Style for Covet Fridays

October 21st, 2011  |  Published in Covet Fridays, Guest Contributor, Street Style, Women's Fashion |  Add a comment

We at The Emerald Closet have always appreciated the effortlessly-chic style of Parisian women. Thus, we turned to our friends at Shop Paris With Love to give us the lowdown on how to re-create Parisian style here in the US. The result? A need-to-read article outlining the 10 commandments of Parisian style.

______________________________

Walking down the streets of Paris, I realized that it is a fact: the concentration of beautiful and in-style women is higher than anywhere else in the world.

Don’t get me wrong, Parisian ladies don’t always look great. We all have bad days. However, we don’t deal with bad-style days the same way as other women, and this is probably where the difference truly lies between Parisian style and the rest of the world.

Why are Parisian women always so undoubtedly stylish and wonderfully elegant? Where do they get that je ne sais quoi?

Answer: they rely on a few basics. Here are their 10 commandments that will turn you into an in-style darling, à la Parisienne!

I. I shall not care about what others think. I like it, I wear it!

II. I shall exorcise every drop of bling that lies inside me.
I opt for dark colors, which are always easier to work style around.

III. I shall turn a bad hair day into a seem-like-it’s-been-neglected chignon or bun.

IV. I shall borrow my boyfriend’s imperméable or trench coat.
Surprisingly, it will make me look feminine and elegant.

V. I shall wear tiny shorts, even in the fall.
Simply add tights or knee-high socks when the weather gets chilly.

VI. I shall wear rock n’ roll booties.

VII. I shall perfect the rock n’ roll style by adding a leather jacket.

VIII. I shall continue to dig in my man’s closet to steal a hat.

IX. I shall own a huge black leather bag.
Even though time will be wasted searching for keys and lipstick.

X. I shall invest in a navy mariniére or striped sweater.
